Your game feels fine on the TV, but Remote Play turns the same fight into a slideshow. Before you buy a router, work out where the delay starts. This checklist separates connection problems from game performance and gives you a useful record of what changed.
Start with one repeatable test
Choose a quiet section of a game you know well. Use the same save point and play for two minutes. Write down the device, connection type and symptom: blurry video, audio breakup, disconnection or delayed controls. Those are different problems. A clearer picture is not proof that input delay improved.
Check the basics before changing settings
Sony recommends checking console internet access, console software and the Remote Play app first. Update through their official interfaces. Test near your console before troubleshooting an away-from-home connection. If the game itself stutters on the TV, investigate that separately from streaming.
Test one connection change at a time
Use an existing Ethernet cable for the console if you have one. Sony recommends wired connections where possible and warns that other heavy network activity can disrupt streaming. Pause your own large downloads briefly, repeat the same scene, and then restore them. If you share the connection, agree on the test instead of disconnecting someone else’s device.
Compare your normal wireless position with a spot closer to the router. Keep the game, client and test duration unchanged. An improvement in one location suggests the local wireless path deserves attention; it does not automatically prove that your internet plan is too slow.
Use this results log
| Run | Only change | Result to record |
|---|---|---|
| Baseline | None | Dropouts and control feel |
| Connection | Console wired | Same scene, same duration |
| Traffic | Your downloads paused | Better, worse or unchanged |
| Position | Client closer to router | Picture and audio stability |
Keep the simplest change that helps. If two changes were made together, undo one and retest. Otherwise you will not know which change earned its place.
When to ask for help
If home streaming works but an outside connection fails, share that distinction with your provider or PlayStation support. Sony documents NAT and connection restrictions. Follow the relevant official instructions rather than disabling your firewall or copying random router settings.
Does faster internet always fix Remote Play lag?
No single upgrade guarantees it. First identify whether the failure follows your device, local wireless connection or outside network. Save your test log; it makes the next support conversation far more useful.
